| Our Goal: To improve the livability of Florence through public education and community involvement. | |
The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Coast Range Resource Area is asking
for public input as
we develop a plan for the removal of non-native vegetation (primarily
European beach grass and
Scotch broom) on Cannery Dune, located within the city limits of Florence,
Oregon. The goal of this
project is to reduce potential for the spread of non-native vegetation
and maintain the open,
un-vegetated character of the active sand dune.
The vegetation proposed for removal was planted without BLM authorization
in the early 1990's.
The planting of European beach grass was conducted to prevent sand
migration from the BLM
property onto Sandpines Golflinks property.
The proposed project will impact approximately 3 acres on a 40 acre
parcel of BLM land. The
project will impact a strip of land, of variable width up to approximately
150 feet, along the BLM
southern property line. This BLM parcel is a portion of a 240-acre
publicly-owned holding, zoned
as open space under the City of Florence Comprehensive Plan.
The BLM is currently identifying issues and concerns for the development
of alternatives to be
considered in an Environmental Analysis (EA) on the project.
The EA should be available for public
review in July/August 2000.
If you would like to be involved further in the planning process or
have information or input to
provide on this project, please contact mark Stephen, Project Leader.
Mark can be reached at
541-683-6439 or via e-mail at mstephen@or.blm.gov Any issues
or concerns on this project should
be submitted in writing to the BLM by Wednesday, May 10, 2000.
