    City's Plan

Our Goal: To improve the livability of Florence through public education and community involvement.

    City's Plan

The City approved a Water Supply Plan in 1998.  That Plan has since been changed.  In February 2001, the City's engineers, Brown and Caldwell, presented a revision of the City's Plan during a City Council work session.  Following is one of the documents provided during that meeting.  If you wish to see the 1998 Water Supply Plan or more of the Brown and Caldwell documents, contact City Hall.

    I.    Description of wellfield and water treatment plant expansion project.

    Summer 2001

    • Develop the capability to supply a net 2 million gallons per day (mgd) to the City distribution system through:
      • Rehabilitation and optimization of existing wellfield.
      • Optimization of existing Water Treatment Plant.

    Summer 2002

    • Develop the capability to supply a net 3 mgd to the City distribution system through:
      • Obtaining a groundwater use permit from Oregon Water Resources Department for an additional 1.9 mgd.
      • Constructing five new production wells.
      • Upgrading Water Treatment Plant.
    Summer 2008
    • Develop new groundwater source and water treatment facility to meet future demands.

    1998 Water Facility Plan

    Summer 2000

    • Develop the capability to supply a net 5 mgd to the City distribution system through:
      • Optimization of existing treatment plant to increase capacity by 0.7 mgd.
      • Construct a 2.5 mgd surface water treatment plant on Clear Lake.

    Summer 2007

    • Develop the capability to supply a net 5.5 mgd to the City distribution system through:
      • Construction of three additional groundwater wells.
      • Expanding existing water treatment plant capacity as needed.

    Summer 2010

    • Develop the capability to supply a net 7.7 mgd to the City distribution system through:
      • Development and construction of a new groundwater source and treatment facility.

Reasons for Changing 1998 Water Facility Plan

    • Heceta Water District water production will be reduced to 1 mgd, thus water supply to City of Florence from Heceta will reduce to zero by the summer of 2002.
    • 1998 Facility Plan assumed service to full urban growth boundary.
    • Development of the 2.5 mgd surface water treatment plant on Clear Lake is no longer a feasible option.
